The upcoming 14 September Corre Por La Ciencia race in Bogotá (Colombia) supports integration, recreation and physical activity with a scientific and astronomical theme. The race will take place at the Anillo Vial Campus of the National University of Colombia.

In 2019, the National University of Colombia’s Faculties of Science and Medicine together with the University Welfare Department, have joined forces to organize the VII University Athletic Race.

The event’s slogan "Run for Science" and with an astronomical theme: “Recorre un agujero negro y una estrella de neutrones” ("Go through a black hole and a neutron star"). This theme was chosen to reflect the recent unveiling of the first image of a black hole by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration. This initiative also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first human landing on the moon and the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union.

As satellite events, there will be a wide variety of activities related to astronomy, culture and the promotion of physical activity and sport:

  • Group classes of physical activity (rumba, martial arts, carnival, among others) directed by the Recreovía program of the IDRD Recreation and Sports Institute;

  • Sports hygiene modules;

  • Presentation of cultural groups of the National University of Colombia;

  • Astronomical observation with telescopes;
