Secretariat

To implement the activities of the IAU100 celebrations, the following individuals comprise the IAU100 Secretariat:

 

Jorge Rivero González

IAU100 Coordinator

Leiden University, the Netherlands

​

Jorge Rivero González was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. He is a science communicator working at Leiden Observatory, the Netherlands, as IAU100 Coordinator. He also has worked for the European Physical Society where he has been involved in the global organization of the UN International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 and the UNESCO International Day of Light. Before that he spent four years living in Munich, Germany, while he was doing his PhD in Astrophysics at the University Observatory Munich. Since 2009 he is a member of the science outreach programme GalileoMobile.

Lina Canas
International Outreach Coordinator, Office for Astronomy Outreach, IAU

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan

Lina Canas joined the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2015 as Assistant Outreach Coordinator for the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO), and is based at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ). With a degree in Astronomy and a Masters in Geophysics, Lina Canas has worked for the past thirteen years in astronomy outreach and education: as a content producer for immersive environments (Navegar Foundation) and project manager (Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP) / NUCLIO – Núcleo Interativo de Astronomia). For the IAU Office of Astronomy Outreach, she is driving initiatives such as the first IAU Symposium on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to be hosted in Tokyo, November 2019 and other accessibility projects such as the IAU
Inspiring Stars.

Bethany Downer

IAU100 Communications Officer

Leiden University, the Netherlands

​

Bethany is a freelance communications professional for the space industry. She achieved her masters in space studies from the International Space University in 2017, during which she completed her internship at the European Space Agency (ESA), and has since been working on a variety of projects in the communications and outreach domains. She joined the IAU100 secretariat in 2018 and has supported the IAU100 celebrations as the coordinator of the 100 Hours of Astronomy in January 2019 and the Moon landing anniversary celebrations in July 2019. Bethany is also the Public Information Officer for ESA/Hubble.

Aneta Margraf-Druc

Graphic Designer

Science Now, Poland and Leiden University, the Netherlands

 

Aneta is currently working as a graphic designer from Poland. She studied design (Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design) at the University of Technology in Lodz, Poland and in 2018, she graduated from the University of Arts in Poznan (Poland) with a master's degree in graphic design. She has participated in exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Aneta joined the IAU100 Secretariat of Leiden University in 2018. Her skills provide the visual identity for various international projects. Aneta specializes in illustrations, logos, posters and motion design. Through her work, she focuses on creating smart and conceptual products for editorial illustrations, brands and various print and online visual communications.
As of 2018, Aneta also cooperates with the multidisciplinary science
& strategic design studio Science Now.
