New Prizes Announced for the Moon Landing 50 Global Project

Four new prize categories have been created to stimulate further engagement and excitement for the Moon Landing 50 global event. To date, over 500 events in more than 90 countries have registered for participation.

 

A variety of moon-related activities are being coordinated worldwide on and around the anniversary of 20-21 July 2019. IAU100 invites everyone to officially register an activity, as any moon-related event taking place on or around the anniversary can be included.  

 

New prizes categories, including a special art contest for children, have been created for organisers and participants of the Moon Landing 50 event:

Prizes for Event Organisers: 7 winners

In September 2019 after the majority of Moon Landing 50 events have concluded, event organisers will be invited to complete a short form to provide information about their event. This information will be used to select the winners for the following prizes.

The ‘Astronomy For All’ Prize: 6 winners

One of the IAU100 themes is Inclusive Astronomy. This prize is awarded to the event that demonstrated the strongest consideration for inclusiveness, diversity and equity in their Moon Landing 50 event - particularly for underserved minorities. You can find suggestions on how to organize inclusives events here. 6 winners will be selected to each receive:

-one Telescope KIT from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO)

-one IAU100 mug

-one set of 12 posters from the IAU100/Science Above and Beyond exhibition

-one LUNAR Pro Moon Model

Most Innovative Event Prize: 1 winner

This prize is awarded to the event that most uniquely and innovatively inspired and educated about the moon and astronomy. The one winner will receive:

-one refractor Bresser 90/900 telescope and custom mount made by the project SSVI that has been signed by various astronauts and the IAU president Ewine van Dishoeck

-one IAU100 mug

-one set of 12 printed posters from the IAU100/Science Above and Beyond exhibition

-one LUNAR Pro Moon Model

Social Media Random Prize Draw: 3 winners

Event participants can share a picture on social media during their Moon Landing 50 event using both of the hashtags #IAU100 and #MoonLanding50 to be automatically be entered for the random prize draw. One winner will be selected from each social media platform: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Each of the 3 winners will receive:

-one LUNAR Pro Moon Model

-one IAU100 mug

Children’s “Under One Moon” Drawing Contest: 3 winners

We invite children aged 5 to 12 to produce a piece of artwork that represents the theme: Under One Moon. The artwork can be drawn or painted on a size A4 paper. To submit: Please have a supporting adult or educator to complete this form by 11 August 17:00 CEST. 3 winners will be selected for the Under One Moon contest per age group (5-6, 7-9, and 10-12). Each winner will have their artwork shared online at MoonLanding50.org and IAU-100.org and will receive: 

-one Telescope KIT from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO)

-one Moon and one Earth from the Celestial Buddies toy set

Prizes will only be awarded to events that have officially registered for the Moon Landing 50 global event. The Moon Landing 50 website also provides a variety of materials and resources for event organisers. Those who do not wish to organise an event or activity of their own can participate in an existing activity by browsing the list of registered events. The variety of events taking place as part of Moon Landing 50 includes festivals, film viewings, public competitions, classroom activities, museum exhibits, public lectures, moon observation events and more.

 

 

Contest agreement:

- All decisions of competition organizers about any aspect of the competition, including eligibility or disqualification of applications, comments or images are final and cannot be appealed.

- By submitting information for the contest about the conducted Moon Landing 50 event, contestants consent to the use, reproduction, publication, transmission and dissemination of their name, and information relating to the award by the competition organizers and/or partners, without compensation, in any publications or promotional material, to promote the competition and its winners.

- IAU100/Moon Landing 50 reserves the right to make changes to the competition at any time without prior notice, to temporarily interrupt the competition, or to cancel the competition without justifying or being in any way accountable for this decision. No damages or compensation may be claimed.

- IAU100/Moon Landing 50 does not guarantee a delivery date for the awarded prizes, as they may be delivered separately and at a later date and may change.
