The Slovak National Museum – Natural History Museum and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) invite everyone interested in science to visit the exhibition Above and Beyond from 23 October to 30 December 2018 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

This travelling exhibition designed by Science Now is one of the global projects of the 100 years celebration of the IAU (IAU100). It premiered originally in Vienna in August 2018 during the 30th IAU General Assembly. The first stop on this world tour is Bratislava, Slovakia, where it will be displayed at the Slovak National Museum -- Natural History Museum from 23 October to 30 December 2018.

On Monday 22 October 2018, there will be an opening ceremony in the Natural History Museum of the SNM in Vajanského nábr. 2, Bratislava, under the auspices of the director general of the Slovak National Museum and with the support of the National IAU Committee, the Slovak Astronomical Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Science of Comenius University in Bratislava.

The exhibition showcases some of the most significant and surprising astronomical breakthroughs that have shaped science, technology and culture over the last century. The exhibition has an interdisciplinary and international scope, outlining that scientific discovery is not a one-off endeavour, but a continuous process that takes decades to fully grasp and comprehend. It is underpinned by three core questions that seem equally inquisitive today, as they were a century ago: What is the size and structure of the Universe? Is there life outside of the Earth? What powers the stars, how do they begin to shine and what happens when they die?

Designed in the spirit of open science, it is available as a travelling exhibition, touring major European cities in 2018 and 2019. It will also be available as an open source to develop a variety of exhibition experiences worldwide. For more information about the exhibition and how to bring it to bring it to your location visit the exhibition website
